The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides you the funding and freedom to decide who will support you, and how it will be provided – tailored specifically to your needs and situation.

The NDIS and you

You may be eligible for the NDIS if you:

  • Live in Australia and are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Are under 65 years old.
  • Have a lifelong impairment or disability that stops you from doing everyday things by yourself.

You can check your eligibility for the NDIS here. When ready, you can apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and they will get you started.

What Does the NDIS Do?

The NDIS provides funding towards necessary support services that aim to achieve the outcomes identified in a participant’s plan. These support services must be:

  • Associated with day-to-day living and activities that increase your social/economic participation.
  • A health resource or a piece of equipment/assistive technology.
  • Able to help you build valuable skills that will improve your quality of life, including opportunities to work, furthering your education and volunteering.

Setting Your Goals

A lot of participants in the NDIS aren’t completely sure of their long-term goals. This is understandable, and your plan will focus on your immediate needs while offering you the chance to reflect on your longer-term needs and goals. The CRISS team can work with you and your family to establish your goals.
